Hypokalemia may be seen in lactating dairy cattle suffering from abomasal impaction, displacement or volvulus. Further complications of calving such as clinical mastitis and retained placenta may also result in significantly reduced potassium levels. Treatment for hypokalaemia should be informed by accurate and frequent testing of potassium levels to avoid excessive administration and adverse outcomes for livestock.
Small animals may suffer from potassium disturbance due to gastrointestinal, renal, metabolic or cardiac issues or interventions. Regular, accurate monitoring before, during and after treatment is required for optimum levels to be restored.
The LAQUAtwin K-11 is your solution for accurate, rapid testing of potassium in animals. As the signs of high or low potassium can be non-specific, correct measurement is vital.
High accuracy, regular testing of cattle around parturition will reduce the risks of hypokalaemia or accidental overdose with potassium supplements.
Pets being medically or surgically managed, especially in hypovolaemia, should be regularly monitored to avoid hypokalaemia or over supplementation.
